What are we going to do?

You Tube video produced by Georgia Tech Ph.D. Student Peter Pesti shows us a conglomeration of views of future activity.  What's interesting to us informationologists - is the implications of information storage.

Think about it.  2099 - Brittany Spears, a teenager again at 118 years old.

Because most information is published using standard assimilated knowledge protocols, information can be instantly understood. The goal of education, and of intelligent beings, is discovering new knowledge to learn.

Ok, makes my brain smoke trying to envision that, let alone a tape silo supporting that.  We're not going to start building for that scenario yet.  How about getting ready for the following scenarios selected from the predictions for 2012 (5 years from now - about the life of the storage systems you are buying today.

  • Multimedia patient records

  • Holographic animated or video advertisements

  • TV quality video screens built into clothes

  • Virtual retinal displays

  • Tourism in some areas limited to net access

  • Criminal tagging augmented with video and audio sensors

  • Data mining use in trials

  • Self monitoring infrastructures using smart materials and sensors.

  • Personal memory sticks replace hard drives for everyday files (HD used as archive)

  • Personal black boxes record everyday life

  • Most homes use web cams for communication

  • Universal monitoring of business transactions

  • Power rationing enforced due to grid shortage

Looks like we've got some work to do.
